Jones Cottage

Murray and Louise Jones came to us with a challenge. Louise’s family owned a beach cottage for generations. They wanted to live on Wrightsville Beach fulltime, unluckily the family home was not up to the task. Our job was to design a new house that honors the original cottage while providing twenty-first century comfort. Many beach lots are long and skinny. A new family home is larger than an old seasonal beach cottage. Our challenge was to make this larger home look like a smaller cottage. Our answer was to cut the house in half with a “hyphen”. Seen from the side the house looks like two smaller cottages pushed together on one lot.
