Some houses are thoroughbred examples of architectural style. Others are predominately one style with a few eclectic touches. The Franklin’s house, Stillwater, is a mutt. A Latin hacienda in plan, Stillwater is an open-ended atrium plan centered on a pool terrace. An open interior plan is slipped into an English country exterior. The interior design is part sleek black-on-white contemporary and part Sister Parish. Playing by the rules is good advice. Nevertheless, sometimes you play by the rules and end up with an average result. Sometimes you break the rules and come up with something special. That is the case with Stillwater.
