Bridge of Sighs
For our second house together, the Winslow’s wanted us to include a rentable apartment over the garage along with the main house. When we connected the apartment to the house with an elevated walkway, we couldn’t help but call it the bridge of sighs.
The original bridge of sighs in Venice connects the Doge Palace to the Venice city prison. Legend has it the bridge got its name from the sighs of the prisoners, looking out at the sky for the last time as they crossed the canal. But there’s another side to the story. Tradition also holds that a couple who kisses beneath the bridge will enjoy eternal love. The sighs in our bridge are sighs of contentment. My guess is that Tim and Heidi have spent time beneath the bridge.
